Welcome to the Okotoks Karate Dojo.
Welcome to the Okotoks Meibukan Goju-Ryu Karate Dojo. We are proud to be a member of the prestigious International Meibukan Goju-ryu Karate-do Association (IMGKA). The IMGKA is headed by Master Yagi, Meitatsu, Hanshi, 10th Dan, eldest son of the late Grandmaster Yagi, Meitoku. There are IMGKA dojos worldwide in addition to numerous dojos established here in Canada.
The training undertaken will be both exciting and rewarding, as you and/or your child, embrace karate-do – "the way of karate". At our Dojo, instruction is provided in the traditional art of Okinawa Meibukan Goju-ryu karate-do, which is viewed as a way of life, as well as a method of self-defense. The Okotoks Meibukan Goju-Ryu Karate Dojo (karate school) is privileged to open its doors in the beautiful setting of Okotoks, AB, located approximately 15 minutes south of Calgary.
We are an educational institution dedicated to teaching traditional Okinawa Meibukan Goju-Ryu Karate-do. This "hard" (go) and "soft" (ju) style of karate emphasizes the importance of personal development and self-defense aspects of martial arts, as opposed to the sports styles.
We incorporate aspects of traditional martial philosophy in a non-competitive, non-sport environment. Goju-Ryu is formally recognized as one of the first three styles of karate and was the first style to be officially named. At our Dojo you will also train in self-defense tactics and kobudo (weapons). Found within this system of karate are elements of Judo, Ju-Jitsu and Kung Fu. Circular blocking techniques, powerful punches and kicks, and the utilization of joint locks, arm bars and throwing techniques characterize this martial art. Additionally we focus on proper breathing methods to cleanse, strengthen and tap into our internal health.
Students develop mental discipline, confidence and a "Yes, I can do it!" attitude.
